Several studies have proven the effectiveness of using CBD as a treatment for many types of anxiety. CBD is known for its relaxing properties, so it comes as no surprise that researchers have been interested to learn more about this natural, non-addictive treatment option.
A study in 2014 by researchers at the Institute of Psychiatry, at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, found CBD to show effective anti-anxiety and anti-depressant properties in animals that were presented with several different stress tests such as forced swimming tests, mazes and conflict tests. Other CBD research papers, which utilized brain scans, have shown CBD to change the blood flow in areas of the brain associated with anxiety.
Studies have concluded CBD to be effective in treating social anxieties, such as public speaking, as well as, numerous other forms of anxiety, including panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), generalized anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Perhaps one of the most exciting aspects of using CBD to treat anxiety is that, unlike many other anti-anxiety medications, there are no known adverse side effects. Conventional anti-anxiety medications come with a long list of negative side-effects including addiction. Many users find their anxiety becomes worse when they discontinue the medication and they experience severe withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, shakiness and vomiting. CBD has no known risk of addiction.
